Komorebi: ‘a dance of shadows emerging when sunlight filters through trees’

The movement of light and shadows formed by the interplay of trees, wind and sunlight on the landscape. The Japanese have a unique word for this occurrence: komorebi. Take four minutes and watch this lovely short film from UK filmmaker Steve Atkins.

The Dream podcast is out with season two. It explores the world of wellness — A $4.5 trillion worldwide industry. It’s a FASCINATING topic I’m interested in since my work is also in wellness. But To speak critically of alternative therapies can be treasonous (not really, but folks can get testy). Like everything, it’s layered and complex. “As the show progressed we started to understand that it was not just about big scams or industry-wide fraud, it’s also had very much to do with aspiration and hope, industries or companies that sell that. With wellness it offers that aspirational feeling: ‘You’re going to feel better, you’re going to be healthier. The host, Jane Marie, doesn’t think wellness is a bad thing in the world. [But] “I think there’s magical thinking that can then lead to people being taken advantage of, and that’s where we want to look.”
